DeWalt’s got it nailed

04 Oct 2013, Industry Updates, Product Focus

New 18V cordless, brushless DeWalt XR framing nailer exclusive to PlaceMakers.

DeWalt says its new 18V brushless, cordless framing nailer is ideal for builders, who need dependable tools with little downtime.

The powerful nailer offers consistent performance and enough power to drive a 90 mm ring shank nail in temperatures as low as -15°C. This makes it ideal for all heavy-duty woodworking professionals, such as general builders, joiners and roofing contractors, as well as installers of decking and fencing.

The cordless framing nailer works off the DeWalt 18V XR slide battery platform and operates mechanically rather than by gas. While gas operation often requires cleaning and service, and a traditional motor contains carbon brushes, which generate friction, the new brushless motor requires little maintenance and eliminates wasted effort, maximising the runtime of the tool.

A combination of the powerful 4.0Ah battery pack, alongside efficient energy transfer from the motor, allows the DeWalt XR framing nailer to deliver over 600 nails per charge – meaning that even the heaviest users should only have to change their battery once to complete a full day’s work.

Clever design

Ergonomically designed for ease of use, the new framing nailer measures just 345 mm long, allowing it to fit easily between 400 mm centre studs when erecting partition frameworks.

Design features include:

  • Tool-free depth adjuster.
  • Profiled nose piece for good visibility and grip when firing at an angle.
  • Fault indicator lights that instantly show why a nail has not been fired – either a low battery or a nail jam.
  • Tool-free stall/jam clearance, allowing clearance of a jammed nail from the gun safely and in super-quick time.

Battery power also delivers health and safety benefits – no gas canister means no storage/leakage of highly flammable gases, and no toxic emissions in a confined working environment.

There is also a significant reduction in noise output, because the tool operation is mechanical rather than explosive.

Consistent with all tools in the DeWalt XR lithium ion range, the XR framing nailer comes with a three-year limited warranty.
