PlaceMakers removes the stress from shed builds

19 Jun 2025, New Tradie Tools, PlaceMakers News

Thanks to upgraded design software, builders can now offer clients bigger, fully customisable sheds – without any hassle

PlaceMakers is a ‘one-stop shop’ for builders tasked with designing, planning and executing the perfect shed build – and now, thanks to upgraded software, PlaceMakers can design sheds bigger than ever!

“Our new software lets us engineer sheds up to 24m span with steel rafters and timber purlins,” said James Lash, PlaceMakers Hub Sales Manager, Nelson Marlborough Hub. “It means we can now provide larger sheds like the 18m deep one we recently delivered to D&A Boats in Nelson. That wasn’t possible before.”

Even better, all designs are engineered to meet Building Code and local council requirements – including those positioned in high wind zones.

Tailored sheds, streamlined supply

PlaceMakers offers a completely customisable shed solution that’s designed and supplied by the team, with the materials and plans arriving on site for building work to commence. While each set is based on a kitset option, PlaceMakers can customise every detail to make sure builders can offer a unique shed to their clients – whether they want open-bay, fully enclosed with windows and roller doors, or lined and insulated for other uses.

“Once we’ve got the specs, we’ll supply everything from cladding and flashings to roller doors and detailed assembly plans. You get one delivery to site and you’re away. It’s a one-stop shop,” said Lash.

From enquiry to delivery in weeks

The farm shed ordering process is designed to be efficient and client friendly. Customers can submit an enquiry online through the PlaceMakers Farm Sheds portal, by phone, or by visiting a local branch. Once submitted, the team follows up to gather the necessary details and quote the job accurately.

Builders don’t need to get involved at any stage of the process if they don’t want to, leaving them with more time to get on with whatever other work needs doing!

Plans are usually turned around in two to four weeks, depending on shed size and complexity. After that, PlaceMakers aims to get materials to site within four weeks. “We aim to underpromise and overdeliver,” said Lash.

Seamless integration with Farmlands

The PlaceMakers-Farmlands partnership makes ordering even easier for rural customers, who can use their Farmlands account to place orders directly through the PlaceMakers online portal or in-store. This connection simplifies transactions and integrates directly with how many rural businesses already operate.

“The Farmlands partnership makes it easier for farmers to do business with us, whether it’s a one-off build or part of a broader farm development,” said Lash.

To get started, Farmlands cardholders can visit the PlaceMakers Farmlands portal and follow the process to link their accounts.

With increased capacity, a streamlined design and supply process, and an easy ordering system integrated with Farmlands, PlaceMakers is making it simpler than ever for farmers to get sheds that work as hard as they do.

“Our farm shed business has grown rapidly in recent years – we’re doing around 110 sheds a year just in Nelson and Marlborough,” said Lash. “These new capabilities let us deliver even more value to builders and their clients, and we’re proud to be part of their success.”
