Renewed focus for BBFNZ

Federation plans to focus on promoting and supporting development of the masonry trades, with new CEO at the helm.
After more than three years as project manager for the Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) programme, Melanie McIver has taken over the role as chief executive officer for the Brick and Blocklayers Federation of New Zealand (BBFNZ), saying she hopes to give the organisation the direction it’s been striving for.
“The BBFNZ exists to promote the use of masonry systems, ensure that appropriate training is achieved, provide a register of association members and a national focal point for the documentation of technical, promotion and legislative matter for the masonry trade in New Zealand,” she said.
Ms McIver plans to renew focus in these areas by assisting members with a clear training path that will help them with skills maintenance and in navigating Building Act changes, such as understanding and implementing risk management procedures.
“We also want to ensure our industry has a voice in the changes that will affect it, be it the LBP scheme, government procurement, Building Act changes or something similar,” she said.
The Federation is also working towards developing an information portal for the masonry trades, which could include product information, supplier details, technical guidance or access to Federation tradespeople or assessors.
Any brick and blocklayer who would like to join their local association should contact BBFNZ on admin@brickandblocklayersfederation.co.nz.
