PlaceMakers tackles the tough stuff

Skills maintenance workshops will help builders navigate the industry’s ongoing changes
With consumer protection measures now in place, PlaceMakers is pleased to announce its eighth round of seminars, which will help builders define their new responsibilities in light of the new legislation.
“The recently released guidance highlighted some specifics that weren’t previously discussed – such as a homeowner’s right to request a disclosure statement, even if the total cost is under $30,000, and the requirement to include materials in the amount. We’ll make sure to identify and discuss those points of difference,” says presenter John Tait.
John will cover all aspects of the consumer protection measures, including contractual agreements, disclosure statements, warranties, guarantees and maintenance information.
The seminars will also look at Building Code Clause B1 Structure. John will run through how load paths are managed in truss design and NZS 3604.
“There have been numerous situations in New Zealand, where loads weren’t transferred through to the foundations, or where builders have been using incorrect materials or methods to install structural connections which resist forces such as uplift,” says John.
“One of the most important responsibilities for any building contractor at the moment is to stay up to speed, understand the changes happening around them and pass the correct information onto their team members.”
