Changes in the works – have your say!
06 Sep 2013, Industry Updates
In its bid to help create a more efficient and productive building industry, MBIE is planning to incorporate 31 Standards updates into 18 Acceptable Solutions and Verification Methods.
Acceptable Solutions and Verification Methods, which are standardised solutions and design methods published by MBIE, are one way of complying with the Building Code.
MBIE recommends incorporating the changes (which resulted from a recent Standards revision) into the relevant Acceptable Solutions and Verification Methods, by updating the current references to them. They believe this will ensure MBIE’s compliance methods reflect the most up-to-date research, knowledge and building practices.
Other minor changes are also proposed for some Acceptable Solutions and Verification Methods.
You can find out more about these proposals or make a comment at www.dbh.govt.nz/current-consultations and click on ‘Updating Standards’. The closing date for submissions on the proposed changes is 20 September 2013.
If MBIE’s proposed changes are accepted, the following Code Clauses would be affected:
B1 Structure B2 Durability C Fire Safety D2 Mechanical installations for access (platform lift and escalators and moving walks) E1 Surface water E2 External moisture E3 Internal moisture F6 Visibility in escape routes |
F8 Signs G4 Ventilation G7 Natural light G8 Artificial light G9 Electricity G10 Piped service G11 Gas as an energy source G12 Water supplies G13 Foul water G14 Industrial liquid waste |
