How will you get blue this September?

26 Aug 2014, Community & Sponsorship, Featured

Throw in a pair of Swanndri undies on your next order to help the cause!

For the sixth year in a row, PlaceMakers is proud to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation in its action-packed Blue September charity month.

“We strongly encourage all men over 40 – employees and customers alike – to get checked,” says PlaceMakers chief executive Dean Fradgley. “To bring this often-neglected topic to the forefront of conversation, PlaceMakers stores around the country will be hosting events aimed at raising funds and awareness for the cause.”

According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, one in ten New Zealand men will develop prostate cancer during their lifetime and, every year, about 600 men die of the disease.

However, about half those deaths could have been prevented with early detection.

In addition to hosting events, PlaceMakers branches will be selling Blue Ribbons for a gold coin donation, as well as its limited edition Swanndri undies. Ten dollars from every pair sold is donated directly to the Prostate Cancer Foundation – so head in and get yours!

Scooterin’ for a cause

In their own bid to raise awareness and funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the five Wellington-based PlaceMakers branches – Kaiwharawhara, Evans Bay, Seaview, Porirua and Kapiti – have teamed up to launch the Capital Scooter Challenge.

Inspired by PlaceMakers Invercargill’s 220km Southern Scooter Challenge from Bluff to Queentown, North Island participants will test their mettle by scootering 224km from Wellington to Foxton and back.

“It’s an endurance ride,” says Kaiwharawhara operator Paul Boden. “It’s not just a relaxing day out – it will be a gruelling test of strength on a 50cc scooter to raise money and awareness for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. We urge PlaceMakers customers to do their bit and join us – grab a scooter, register and fundraise to help fight New Zealand’s deadliest cancer.”

After the ride, PlaceMakers will host a prizegiving to award those who raised the most money, wore the best costume and much more. Good fun!

The event will take place on Saturday 13 September. To register, visit www.capitalscooterchallenge.com.
