Keen kids conquer Mud Dash

PlaceMakers Albany and Blue Streak team up with Harbour Sport to host Blue September obstacle race.

Blue Streak was more brown than blue after the first ever PlaceMakers Albany Mud Rush, which saw almost 1,000 kids participate in a muddy obstacle race and raise just over $1,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

PlaceMakers Albany branch manager Mark Moffitt says the branch and Blue Streak were keen to team up with Harbour Sport, which is committed to providing sporting opportunity in the area, for its inaugural Mud Dash.

“The 2.5 km endurance event, which featured plenty of hills and 18 obstacles, was a muddy sea of six to 13 year-olds, who were keen to test their limits,” says Mark. “Parents on the sidelines were treated to a hilarious spectacle and some time spent mingling with Blue Streak, whose presence alone was enough to prompt prostate cancer awareness.”

PlaceMakers Blue Streak was accepting gold coin donations and all the parking funds from the day were donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

“Overall, it was a fantastic community family event,” says Mark. “We were very happy to be involved in the event itself, as well as helping spread the underlying health message, which is to promote regular checks for prostate cancer.”
