New round of PlaceMakers LBP seminars announced

A new series of PlaceMakers LBP Skills Maintenance Seminars will take place this May, with events scheduled in Kapiti, Christchurch, Hawke’s Bay and Auckland (Pukekohe)

Each session offers two hours of elective learning and is aimed at helping LBPs stay up to date with regulatory and compliance changes affecting the construction sector.

The seminars will be led by John Tait, Building Services Team Leader at Carterton District Council, who brings more than 26 years’ experience in the field, alongside a background in carpentry, inspections, litigation and industry training.

Focus on regulatory change

The seminar content centres on recent and upcoming changes across the building and planning landscape. Topics include updates to granny flat exemptions, Resource Management Act changes, new waterproofing LBP licence information, and evolving liability settings within construction.

The sessions are designed to provide practical, real-world insights into compliance requirements.

Events across the country

The seminar series kicks off in Kapiti on Thursday 7 May, followed by Christchurch on Tuesday 19 May, Hawke’s Bay on Thursday 21 May, and Pukekohe on Wednesday 27 May.

Participants are encouraged to register in advance to secure a place.

Industry experience on hand

Presenter John Tait has a long-standing involvement in building control.

He has spent his entire career in construction – starting as a carpenter, moving into sales at PlaceMakers and, for the past 26+ years, working in building control. He is currently a BCO with Carterton Council. With experience covering inspections, litigation and industry training, he brings a practical, real-world perspective to compliance.

Each seminar is approximately two hours long and will count as two hours of elective learning. Tradies who have applied for a licence, or are thinking about becoming licensed, are welcome to attend PlaceMakers skills maintenance seminars.
