North Island nabs back doorstep honours

Kapiti builder Scott Turner was chuffed to shoot his first stag – a young 100 kg 4-pointer – and after stuffing himself with venison burgers and bangers, he already has his sights set on a bigger one!
“I’ve been getting more and more into hunting since I came back from overseas almost ten years ago,” says Scott. “I often go out with a bunch of other local builders and this is the first stag I’ve shot.
“The stags were just getting over the ‘roar’ [mating period], so he might have been a bit distracted. I stalked him, caught him by surprise and got’em.”
Scott and his mates carried the young stag out of the Ruahine’s and enjoyed a generous bbq for their efforts.
“I kept the antlers as a souvenir but they’re not wall-worthy – I’ll just have to wait till I score one with more points!”
The challenge is still on – what can you bring from your back doorstep? Send submissions to editor@pmunderconstruction.co.nz.
