PlaceMakers support helps suppliers align early with 2026 lead-free plumbing rules

04 Jul 2025, PlaceMakers News

PlaceMakers is supporting its suppliers to move early to align with New Zealand’s upcoming lead-free plumbing standards

From 1 May 2026, in accordance with the amended Building Code Acceptable Solution G12/AS1, all potable water plumbing products that come into contact with drinking water must meet a weighted average lead content limit of no more than 0.25%. Where copper alloys such as brass are used in pressurised systems, they must be made from dezincification-resistant (DR) brass.

To support its plumbing suppliers, PlaceMakers has set up project teams in house to work through the changes with each supplier and ensure a smooth transition across new and old stock.

“This is a full supply chain effort from manufacturer through to customers via the PlaceMakers branches,” said Category Manager Louise Cook. “With more than 100 different suppliers with affected product, it is a large project, but we are committed to supporting our suppliers through the transition.”

One of the brands to transition several major product lines to meet these standards well ahead of schedule is Oliveri.

Oliveri’s London, Venice, Verona and Paris bathroom tapware collections are now manufactured using lead-free materials and tested to meet the 0.25% lead content threshold. These products also carry dual WELS (Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards) star ratings, supporting water efficiency across a range of pressure conditions. Available in multiple finishes, the collections suit a variety of design briefs from classic to contemporary.

In the kitchen, the Essente 316, London, Verona and Venice ranges have also been upgraded to meet lead-free standards. The Essente 316 series, made from high-grade stainless steel with negligible lead content, is corrosion-resistant and designed for long-term performance.

These upgrades align with Oliveri’s commitment to user wellbeing and sustainable design. All products are supported by extended warranties.

For builders seeking compliant, durable and design-led tapware solutions, Oliveri’s early alignment with 2026 regulations provides confidence – without compromising on quality or style.
