Penetrations through ceiling diaphragms and GIB Ezybrace® wall bracing elements which are greater in diameter than 100mm require the use a metal backing plate to support the penetration opening and maintain the plasterboard’s structural adequacy*.   

In the past builders and installers have had to get these bracing plates custom made from a local steel fabricator, increasing the potential for installation delays on site.   

GIB® offers two metal bracing plate sizes. The 170mm circular cutout plate is commonly used for service and pipe penetrations, while the 350mm circular cutout plate is used for larger penetrations such as HVAC ducting.

GIB® Bracing Plates are sold in packs of 5 and can be ordered from your local Placemakers store.
