PlaceMakers Wellington LBP Seminar
04 Jun 2025, Prove Your Know How
This two-hour session – which includes two speakers, one quiz and some breakout work groups – is designed to help you stay up to speed with Building Code updates, develop or finesse your risk mitigations strategies and earn skills maintenance points. It’s also a chance to catch up and enjoy some food and drinks with other LBPs from around the region.
MBIE’s Fraser Pearce and Jack Leonard will discuss recent Building Code updates, including including the Government’s proposed and approved changes in the past year, such as the ‘granny flat’ exemption, self certification, licensing regime changes, overseas product certification changes, remote inspections as default and more! There’s been a lot to take in and it’s important to understand what’s been approved to move ahead and when that will happen, and what’s still being considered.
Risk and insurance expert Ben Rickard from Builtin will cover the top five risks identified by builders and some of the solutions:
- Managing the risk of non-payment/cashflow issues
- Minimising the risk of an accident on site
- Reducing the incidence of defective workmanship
- Reducing the impact of subcontractors going bust
- Limiting the cost/impact of poor staff reliability/availability
He will also cover the most common insurance cover available to builders and what you need to know about each type.
