Mountain views capture PlaceMakers’ HOTY award

Fowler Homes HOTY2

Fowler Homes Manawatu took out the PlaceMakers New Homes $250,000-$350,000 award at the Registered Master Builders 2014 House of the Year Awards.

Tailor made to suit the owner’s requirements; the around 200m², three-bedroom home was built with large north facing windows, offering sweeping views of both Mount Ruapehu and Mount Taranaki.

Managing director Shane Walker has more than 35 years of building experience and he says there were a number of challenges throughout the build.

“One of the hardest parts was laying the polished concrete floors in the walk in-showers. Forming those is no easy feat; you have to waterproof underneath the slab and then pour your concrete over the top,” says Shane.

Judges commended the high standard of the home, describing the Coloursteel roof finish as one the “best they’ve ever seen”.

Shane says their point of difference is their desire to be the best.

“This is our 40th award and that’s testament to our commitment to ensuring every home we build is completed to a high standard.”

“I just love building homes! From the actual building process, through to working with clients and, helping them achieve their dream home.”

Richmond rewards

Inhaus Developments HOTY

Boutique builders Inhaus Developments won the PlaceMakers $350,000-$450,000 New Home award, for its 209m² “timeless classic” in Richmond.

Based in Nelson, Inhaus’ clients wanted a classic home with easy indoor-outdoor living. They delivered, using high-quality materials to create a cosy and elegant three bedroom home.

American white oak flooring, generous skirting and architraves lead judges to describe the Richmond home as “a pleasure to judge”.

Inhaus Developments’ director Russell Campbell says it was great to be recognised in a category packed with quality homes.

“I take extra pride in this project though because a lot of the finishing work on the home was done by one of our apprentices. That’s one of the most pleasing things about this award,” Russell says.
