Blue September starts early

PlaceMakers Albany kicks off in August with $5,000 for the kitty

Why wait for Blue September when you can be first out of the blocks in August?

With that in mind – and a trip to Sydney to watch the first Bledisloe Test on offer as a prize – PlaceMakers Albany decided to begin raising awareness early and host its annual Blue September Trade Breakfast at the start of August.

“We decided to get a head start on awareness and fundraising and it worked out well,” says branch manager Mark Moffitt.

“We had over 200 builders and more than 30 suppliers turn up to support the event, and we raised over $5,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation – not a bad amount to have in the jar when Blue September begins.”

The event, which was MC’d by New Zealand Idol judge and singer Frankie Stevens, was also attended by WorkSafe representatives and Prostate Cancer Foundation representatives, including CEO Graeme Woodside.

“It was a great atmosphere overall and everyone had a great time, but the theme of the event – the importance of getting tested for prostate cancer before it’s too late – wasn’t lost on anyone.”
