Squashing the opposition

30 Aug 2013, Community & Sponsorship

PlaceMakers Morrinsville’s own Liz Hamilton is looking to squash the competition in the trans-Tasman Tri-test, where the best players from every Masters age group in Australia and New Zealand square off for top honours.

“I started playing squash in 1997 and it quickly became my passion,” says Liz. “Now I play about five times a week and compete whenever I can – but this is the first year I’ve been selected for the New Zealand team!”

Liz, who has represented Waikato at the Nationals for the past several years, was thrilled to be selected as part of the six-man, six-woman Kiwi team heading to Canberra at the end of August.

Competing against Aussie players in the same age group, the New Zealand team will participate in both the Australian Open Series and the Tri-test over 11 days of play.

“I’ve been training harder than ever,” says Liz. “Right now, New Zealand holds the Tri-test trophy and I want to make sure we keep it!”
